Gastrointestinal cancer is cancer of the organs of the digestive system – including the esophagus, gallbladder, liver, pancreas, stomach, small intestine, large intestine (colon) and rectum. Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in men and women, with more than 100,000 colon cancer and 40,000 rectal cancer cases diagnosed in the past year. Adding pancreatic cancer (more than 30,000 cases), stomach cancer (more than 20,000 cases), and other cancers of the digestive system, the yearly number of new gastrointestinal tract cancers is more than 250,000.
